Just got a call from a friend, had installed some of Macrel Bresink’s software on his Mac Book Pro….”audio editng rig” It helped him catch a failing battery in time to get a free replacement from Apple Care & let him know how drastically the Multiple monitors set-up was driving up his laptops baseline operating Temperature! Lots of GOOD STUFF here…

Temperature Monitor is an application to read out all accessible temperature sensors in Macintosh computers FREE!!!! Really a MUST for any Mac Book Pro
EasyBCD 1.7.2 bootloader – simplification of managing multiple OS’s for regular humans!
I forgot how useful this program is “windows thing” been using it so long haven’t thought of mentioning it! Just noticed neosmat put up an awesome tutorial on it. So rather than do my own – a link to the tutorial:http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/easybcd-video-tutorial/

After playing with the recipe all summer & after many batches, here’s where it’s at as of today’s batch (Gazpacho that will NOT be perceived as cold tomato soup by those who eat it) and yes: I no longer blend it! And yes it is almost more like salsa!
In large pot: add
1 can of white corn 1 can of yellow corn 1 can of garbanzo beans – optional 1 heaping table spoon of ground Cumin A couple shakes of black pepper A pour of olive oil (¼ a cup?) Juice from one lemon NO SALT EVER!!!!! Stir it all up good………. Then add below after chopped med… Several cloves of Garlic – I like elephant (chop fine) One large Vidalia or sweet white onion 2 large cucumbers – skinned 2 hass avocadoes 1 sweet green pepper & one (sweet yellow or red pepper) seeded 2 table spoon of fresh chopped parsley (must be fresh) 4 or 5 chives 1 quart of Vegetable Juice – low sodium 1 quart of V8 Hot & Spicy – regular (here where all the salt you need comes from)!Too hot pour in more vegetable juice – to mild pour in more Hot & Spicy v8
***CHILL FOR SEVERAL HOURS***
Do not use a spoon – eat with Tostito Scoops
Mozilla’s new browser “flock” is working really well for me! It is AMAZING for wrangling all your social networks & webmail into one manageable place. Flickr, Facebook, MySpace, twitter, WordPress, feeds, the works!! Even tested support for browser FTP & it all works!

Noticed color management is turned off by default but that is easy enough to turn on:
• Step 1
In an open Flock window, type in the following command (without the quotes) and press Return:“about:config”
• Step 2
The “about:config” Command and Warning Dialog
The typed command will bring up a “warning” dialog. Click “I’ll Be Careful, I Promise” to continue.
• Step 3
The “gfx” Filtered Window in Flock
Type (without the quotes) “gfx” in the “Filter” text input bar at the top of the page. – or scroll down to it
• Step 4
Double-Click “gfx.color_management.enabled” to Change its Value
from “False” to “True.” Re-launch flock to enable flock color management

Soft proofing CS4 light version (quick check & see what if any tweaks are needed before printing)
When you are working on your computer odds are you are working in a very big color space ref: http://blog.scarpati.com/?p=315
Odds are also when you go to output /print the image the printer color space won’t be the same as your monitor. This is why ever so often images on the computer DON’T look like the prints you get!
What I do to check or correct for a specific printer:
Open the image you want to print in Photoshop Duplicate that image: Image > Duplicate Leave both images up on screen use the original as a reference On the duplicate: View > Proof set-up > Custom In the Device to Simulate box pick your output profile – keep preview checked Click OK.If you need to (some images convert just fine as is) Convert the duplicate to the printers color space, file > Convert to Profile - tweak the look of the duplicate image with your favorite Photoshop tools to get a match to the original. The duplicate is ready for printing!

notice the radical change in greens going from RGB to CYMK?
If you are really going to get anal about it, the printer you will be using probably has a custom color profile “for their specific printer” you can get/download from that vendor.
These are generally re calibrated & up kept on a regular basis and machine specific!
Understanding Color
Different devices are capable of capturing “utilizing” different amounts of the visible color spectrum…. gamuts of a profile – Shown in diagram below is a generic representation of this

A – The human eye
B – RGB & CYMK profiles
C – Devices – consumer camera, flatbed scanner, monitor, office printer, printing press
** the colors a device is capable of delivering are the ones With-In the lines only!! so kiss the ones outside the lines goodbye!!
Obviously there are also WIDE swings with-in these categories based on the quality / specifications of the specific devices with in each category.
Another large contributing factor to the amount of color & detail that can be seen is also Transmitted vs Reflective mediums.
A transmitted image / medium are ones where light passes directly into the eye, like a monitor or when you are viewing a transparency or slide, “back-lit” this type of viewing is capable of preserving & delivering much more accurate detail & color!
A reflected image / medium is one where light must illuminate the image & the eye recieves the image as the bounced back light / reflected into the eye. During the process of refraction some loss & or distortion may occur. An even bigger factor in the loss of color is the printing process itself. Inks can spread as they soak into paper, the quality of the ink & paper is a MASSIVE factor in Accuracy /Quality.
.
Since all these colors Profiles & Such can get quite overwhelming & confusing, one thing I have done, is established my personal default RGB workspace – I choose Adobe 1998 RGB. Everything that comes into my computers is converted to adobe 1998 & that’s what I work in. It’s not Photoshop’s default setting – but it’s got more color than any current CYMK profile, but not so much more that I get disappointed regularly when things are converted CYMK for press – Which most of my work is. Am Still Not willing to go so far as to throw away as much color as all CYMK profiles would… but do throw away allot to get much closer to my most common output source – the printing press. I like to minimize as many variables as possible… so my brain doesn’t start to hurt!
Will follow this post up with a Soft Proofing Post soon, so you can see the tweaks that might be necessary to get your larger RBG profiles to change as little as possible when even more color is thrown away as you convert to CYMK. This only happens on some images based on the colors in that image.
